Cahill Contractors | Master Builders Since 1915 Corporate Profile

Cahill Contractors, Inc. is the third in a succession of Cahill firms doing construction work.
Cahill Contractors, Inc. started in 1974 by Gerald Cahill, William Cahill, and Jay Cahill, who continues as Chairman and CEO today. Charles J. Lochtefeld and Charles L. Palley joined Cahill Contractors in the mid 1980’s and they currently are part of Cahill Contractor's Senior Management team. The previous two firms, Cahill Brothers and Cahill Construction Co., Inc. followed one after the other. When taken together with Cahill Contractors, Inc. there has been continuous construction activity by a Cahill firm for the past 90 years.

Cahill Brothers was founded in 1915 by two brothers, John R. Cahill and Edward G. Cahill, who were engineering graduates of the University of California. At the outset the firm concentrated on building structures relating to the mining industry, such as stamp mills, lead frames and bunkers.

In the twenties it turned to commercial and industrial projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and experienced such rapid expansion that it incorporated as Cahill Brothers, Inc. in 1923.

In the late thirties, and at the end of World War II, the four sons of John R. Cahill joined the firm in various capacities, resulting in a new firm, Cahill Construction Co., Inc. which was formed in 1946. The two firms existed side-by-side under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board, John R. Cahill, until 1964 when Cahill Brothers, Inc. was dissolved.

Cahill Construction Co. Inc. built hundreds of projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond during the period from 1946 to 1983.

John R. Cahill and his four sons J. Peter Cahill, John E. Cahill, Richard F. Cahill, and Robert W. Cahill received the San Francisco Building Industry Conference Board "Construction Award of the Year" for 1958. In 1987 the Building Industry Conference Board declared a special posthumous honor award to John R. Cahill.
